News You Can Use

Smith ES Parents and Sponsors,

This week has been a wonderful week of Teacher Appreciation, and I want to thank our PTO for honoring our teachers this week.  I also want to extend my sincere thanks to each of our teachers for the work they do every day building relationships with students, preparing engaging lessons and creating a student-centered learning experience for all.

Congratulations to our 3rd-5th grade students who powered through and completed the Math and Literacy Summative Assessments this week.  As soon as summative results are available, we will share this information with parents.

Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring the Post Summative Assessment Celebration, and the Spring Market. Students were able to purchase items for Mother’s Day, Father's Day, Graduation, and Teacher Appreciation.  The PTO is looking for volunteers to serve on the PTO Leadership for SY25/26.  If you are interested or would like to nominate someone you think would do an amazing job as PTO Secretary, Treasurer, or President please send your nomination to Linda.Yates@dodea.edu.

Re-Registration: The information collected during re-registration will be used to determine each student's continued eligibility, as well as plan staffing, resource needs, and plays a vital role in class placements for the coming school year. This coming week our admin, counselor, and classroom teachers will be working through classroom placements for next year.  If you have not re-registered, please take a few moments and log into the DoDEA Parent Portal and re-register for next school year or use the link to let us know your family is not returning to Smith ES next school year.

Parents must submit re-registration to indicate whether each student is staying in DoDEA or leaving their current location. All Parents should log into the DoDEA Student Information System (DSIS) Family Portal at https://dodeasis.myfollett.com/aspen/logon.do to submit each student re-registration request. After your re-registration submission has been reviewed, the School Registrar will contact you if additional information is required.   If you encounter issues, please contact the School Registrar, Robert.Woods@dodea.edu

The School Advisory Committee: Our School Advisory Committee will be meeting at 1600 on May 19th for our End of the Year closeout meeting.  If you have an agenda item you would like discussed, please send your agenda item to sacsmithes@gmail.com. Generally, this is an administrative meeting to close out the year, but we wanted to give more time to collect agenda items before the end of the year.  During the meeting we will be nominating leadership positions for SY 25/26, preparing our end-of-the-year reports, and setting dates for next year’s SAC meetings.  If you or someone you know are interested in serving on the School Advisory Committee, please email sacsmithes@gmail.com to make a nomination.  We are hopeful this year to elect a new President, Vice President, and Secretary. If you have agenda items for any of the meetings scheduled for SY 24/25, please email sacsmithes@gmail.com.  Minutes from the most recent SAC meeting are posted outside the main office and on the Smith ES Official DoDEA Website.

Go Bulldogs!

A circular badge with a white edge and the text "National School Public Relations Association". The inner circle has a blue background with the text "Publications and Digital Media Excellence Award". The bottom of the badge has a ribbon with the year 2025 in the middle of it, and just below this ribbon it has the text "Award of Merit Website".

We’re excited to share that DoDEA has won the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) Publications and Digital Media Excellence Award – Website Award of Merit for our School Newsletters Project! This NSPRA award honors outstanding school communication efforts that help connect schools with their communities. This wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our amazing school webmasters. Thank you for keeping families connected with your hard work and heart!
