Apr 9 2026 — Smith Elementary proudly recognized students for their hard work, positive choices, and academic achievement during our PRIDE Awards and Honor Roll celebration. Students were honored for demonstrating PRIDE values—Prepared, Respect, Improvement, Dependable, and Enthusiasm, as well as for earning top marks in the classroom. Families and staff cheered as students were celebrated for their growth, leadership, and commitment to learning. The event highlighted the strong character and academic success of our Smith community and reminded everyone how much our students can accomplish when they put forth their best effort.

Apr 9 2026 — Smith Elementary’s Family Bingo Night was a joyful highlight of our Month of the Military Child celebrations. Students, families, and staff filled the room with energy as they played multiple rounds of bingo, cheered for winners, and enjoyed time together as a school community. The event honored our military‑connected students by creating a fun, inclusive space where families could relax, connect, and celebrate the resilience and spirit of our community. With prizes, laughter, and enthusiastic participation from all ages, Family Bingo Night truly showcased the strength and togetherness that make Smith Elementary special.

Mar 20 2026 — Smith Elementary’s annual STEM Night proved to be a remarkable success, bringing together teachers, families, university partners, and community members for an evening of hands on learning and discovery. This year’s event showcased the power of collaboration, with Smith ES educators, the University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC), and our military partners working side by side to create an engaging and inspiring experience for students.

Mar 6 2026 — Read Across America was this week, with students dressing as their heroes, in patriotic colors, as a new word, and much more.

Feb 19 2026 — Smith Elementary’s Curriculum Night was a wonderful success, bringing families, teachers, and students together in a warm and energetic atmosphere. Our school buzzed with excitement as students proudly played games, and parents had the chance to connect with teachers and learn more about the year’s goals. The strong turnout and positive conversations highlighted the school’s supportive community and its commitment to helping every child thrive. It was the kind of evening that reminds everyone why Smith Elementary is such a special place.

Feb 6 2026 — Each quarter, our school gathers to celebrate students who demonstrate exceptional achievement, strong character, and a commitment to personal growth. During our PRIDE Assembly, we recognize students who have excelled academically as well as those who consistently model the values that define our school community. Honor Roll recipients are celebrated for maintaining high academic standards across all subject areas. Their hard work, responsibility, and perseverance shine through in everything they do. Alongside academic honors, we also highlight students who embody our PRIDE expectations—Prepared, Respectful, Improving, Dependable, and Enthusiastic. These students show leadership in the classroom, kindness toward others, and a positive attitude that inspires their peers. PRIDE Assembly is more than an awards ceremony; it’s a moment to honor growth, effort, and the many ways students contribute to a supportive and thriving school environment. We are proud of their accomplishments and look forward to seeing them continue to shine throughout the year.

Jan 12 2026 — Universal Prekindergarten (UPK) students at Smith Elementary School invited the entire school community to celebrate learning during a schoolwide clothing-themed week marking the completion of their “Clothes” instructional unit. Held Jan. 5–9, the week combined hands-on learning with creativity and school spirit, allowing students and staff to take part in daily dress-up themes that reflected what UPK students had been exploring in class.

Jan 9 2026 — Recess turned into a winter wonderland this week as students bundled up and headed outside to enjoy the fresh snowfall. With no sleds on hand, creativity took over — and soon cardboard boxes became the most popular ride on the hill. Laughter echoed across the playground as students discovered just how fast a piece of cardboard can glide over packed snow. The snowy recess offered a perfect mix of imagination, teamwork, and pure winter joy. Teachers noted how students encouraged one another, shared materials, and found clever ways to make the most of the chilly weather. Moments like these remind us that play is powerful — and sometimes all it takes is a snowy day and a piece of cardboard to create memories that last long after the snow melts.

Jan 9 2026 — Students are discovering the joy of creativity one stitch at a time in our Crochet Club. The club offers a relaxed, welcoming space where beginners and experienced crafters can learn, create, and connect. Students explore the basics of crochet — from holding a hook to making their first chain — and gradually work their way toward small projects. More advanced members help mentor newcomers, creating a supportive environment where everyone feels successful. Beyond crafting, the Crochet Club encourages patience, focus, and problem‑solving. Students often describe the experience as calming after a busy school day, and many enjoy the sense of accomplishment that comes from turning yarn into something they can hold, wear, or gift. With enthusiasm and skills growing each week, the Crochet Club is quickly becoming a favorite activity — a place where creativity thrives and friendships grow.

Dec 9 2025 — Smith ES First Graders welcomed in the holiday season by singing at the Baumholder Tree Lighting ceremony. Great job, everyone!

Nov 6 2025 — Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders and Fritz the Falcon came to Smith today to read with our Kindergartners.

Oct 31 2025 — Trevor Romain, celebrated author, speaker, and co-founder of the Anchored 4 Life program, made a memorable visit to Smith Elementary this fall, bringing his signature blend of humor, heart, and healing to the school community.

Oct 30 2025 — On October 29, Bulldogs came to school ready to showcase their favorite story book characters. We marched with a book in hand, all dressed up, and cheered each other on.

Jun 11 2025 — To mark the end of school year 2024-2025, Bulldogs signed yearbooks, then applauded each other as they exited the building. We were joined by our partners in the 44th. The Clap Out culminated with all Bulldogs cheering on the rising 6th graders as they left our building for the last time. Have a great summer!
