Smith Elementary Hosts 4th Annual Vocabulary Parade

Smith Elementary School recently celebrated its 4th annual Vocabulary Parade as part of Read Aloud Week, showcasing the creativity and enthusiasm of students from Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK) through 5th grade.
The event, which took place on March 12, allowed students to choose a word and dress up to represent it. The parade was split into two sessions to ensure that every student had the opportunity to participate. In the morning, younger students from UPK to 1st grade paraded, proudly displaying their imaginative costumes while older students from 2nd to 5th grade cheered them on. The afternoon session saw the roles reversed, with 2nd to 5th graders taking their turn to march in the parade as the younger students applauded.
Parents were invited to join in the festivities, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. The Vocabulary Parade not only highlighted students’ creativity and vocabulary skills but also fostered a sense of community as older and younger students supported each other.
The event has become a beloved tradition at Smith Elementary, underscoring the school’s dedication to literacy and language development. As the parade concluded, it was evident that the combination of education and fun left everyone eagerly anticipating next year’s celebration.
Smith Elementary continues to inspire a passion for words and reading, making the Vocabulary Parade a standout event in the school year.
